While Priyanka Chopra Jonas was one of the most well-known figures in Bollywood, she had to endure rejection and the most challenging period of her career while trying to establish herself in Hollywood.

Like any struggling artist, Priyanka’s first experience in Hollywood was daunting. Despite being one of India’s biggest personalities and a former Miss World, she received no special treatment or advantages.

On Cavanaugh James’s podcast, Read The Room, Priyanka once opened up about the hardships she faced in Hollywood, even after the success of her internationally acclaimed single, Exotic.

She reflected on some of the darkest days during this career transition, saying, “It was an industry I didn’t know, filled with people I didn’t know, and I had no friends to call at 2 a.m. That’s very important. I was very lonely, and it was very scary. I was in New York City, which is already a daunting place. It was a dark period of my life.”

Priyanka acknowledged that rejection had humbled her. Despite appearing on the covers of India’s biggest magazines, she struggled to gain recognition in the United States.

People in Hollywood wouldn’t even meet with her. However, she remained composed, kept her head high, and persevered—qualities that eventually helped her achieve global stardom.

The ‘Don 3’ actress shared, “It was like starting all over again. I began from scratch. I had been on the cover of a certain magazine six times in my country, but in the U.S., they wouldn’t even take a meeting with me. That took a lot… but I didn’t let my pride get in the way, thinking, ‘I’m a leading lady and blah blah.’ That humility is what helped me reach where I am today.”

On the work front, Priyanka Chopra Jonas is gearing up for the next season of ‘Citadel’. Meanwhile, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has reportedly approached her for a new project.
