Prince William and Prince Harry Reunite for Princess Diana’s Statue Unveiling Amid Months of Tension
Prince William and Prince Harry just put aside their personal drama and came together for the unveiling of Princess Diana’s statue at Kensington Palace. The brothers commissioned the statue t0 honor their late mother, and it debuted on what would have been her 60th birthday.
There’s been a lot of speculation about what the vibe between William and Harry would be like at the event, but in a show of unity, they arrived together and gave the following quotes about their late mother:
“Today, on what would have been our mother’s 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength, and character—qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better.
“Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy.
“Thank you to Ian Rank-Broadley, Pip Morrison, and their teams for their outstanding work, to the friends and donors who helped make this happen, and to all those around the world who keep our mother’s memory alive.”
There was no sign of tension between the brothers, and it was clear that they were focused on honoring their mom’s legacy
Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton, and Prince Charles were not in attendance at the event for various reasons. Meghan—who just welcomed a baby daughter named Lili—is at home in California, Kate—who was initially supposed to attend the event—isn’t attending due to COVID-19 restrictions, and Charles “doesn’t want to be a distraction.” Instead, he is traveling and “has made it quite clear he will not be around…because he is going to Scotland,” according to The Sun.
William and Harry, who have a very strained relationship at the moment, are expected to meet privately after the event. TBD on what topics will be up for discussion, but here’s to hoping they can put aside some of their tension.
