Truth behind whether Obama earned $40,000,000 in royalties from Obamacare as Trump makes shocking claim

Trump addressed the claims on Truth Social

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account where he shared a post about former President Barack Obama.

The post reshared a previous claim that Obama had ‘collected $40 million’ in royalties since he set up Obamacare back in 2010.

The post, shared by Trump, read: “#BREAKING: DOGE halts yearly payment of $2.5 million to Barack Obama for ‘royalties linked to Obamacare’.”

Obamacare, also known formally as the Affordable Care Act, was passed into law in 2010 and aimed to overhaul the American healthcare system and improve access to insurance for US citizens.

It was the central issue in the recent government shutdown, the longest in history, which saw Democrats fight to extend healthcare subsidies for 24 million Americans, which were due to expire by the end of the year.

Trump has frequently criticized Obamacare, writing in early November on Truth Social: “I am recommending to Senate Republicans that the Hundreds of Billions of Dollars currently being sent to money sucking Insurance Companies in order to save the bad Healthcare provided by ObamaCare, BE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLE SO THAT THEY CAN PURCHASE THEIR OWN, MUCH BETTER, HEALTHCARE, and have money left over.”

However, the president has since admitted he is looking to extend Obamacare subsidies, telling reporters ‘some kind of an extension may be necessary to get something else done because the unaffordable care act has been a disaster’.

The POTUS shared the bizarre claim Obama was making $2.5 million a year from the legislation on Sunday (November 30).

While the post that Trump shared didn’t include a link or source, it’s believed to have originated from satirical claims made on a website called the Dunning-Kruger Times which is a spin-off of America’s Last Line of Defense network.

The site is known for producing ‘parody, satire and tomfoolery’ and describes

“If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined,” it warns.

The claim that Obama had been collecting royalties began earlier this year, but has since been debunked.

America’s Last Line of Defense owner Christopher Blair previously told Reuters: “The ‘Obamacare Royalties’ storyline is one ALLOD has used successfully for years.

The operation thrives on confirmation bias.”

Meanwhile, CNN anchor Jake Tapper rubbished the claims, posting a video explaining: “No, President Obama is not getting paid royalties for Obamacare, as President Trump posted on Truth Social earlier today. It’s not true. There’s no truth to it. It’s insane.

“The claim, if you can call it that, originated on a website called the Dunning-Kruger Times. More on that in a second.

“That’s part of the America’s Last Line of Defense Network, which is by definition describing itself as a network of parody satire and tomfoolery. Everything on this website is fiction – the website says it’s not true.”

In response to questions about why Trump had shared the post, a White House spokesperson told Forbes that Obama had ‘rapidly became a multi-millionaire who even bought a luxurious Martha’s Vineyard summer estate’ following his time in office.

They added: “Meanwhile, President Trump is the only president in modern history to have actually lost money in office because he has consistently put everyday Americans and America First – not special interests.”

Questions have been raised about the prospect of Barack Obama being prosecuted for alleged treason.

It’s not new information that Obama and his 2017 successor Donald Trump haven’t always seen eye-to-eye, but things have always seemed somewhat civil with each other — up until recently.

On July 20, Trump found himself at the center of controversy after sharing an AI video of Obama being arrested.

Prior to sharing the bizarre clip, Tulsi Gabbard, the US Director of National Intelligence, accused Obama of ‘treasonous conspiracy’ that undermines Trump’s first presidency.

Gabbard said on July 18: “Over 100 documents that we released on Friday really detail and provide evidence of how this treasonous conspiracy was directed by President Obama just weeks before he was due to leave office after President Trump had already gotten elected.”

The ‘conspiracy’ is that Russia had involvement in Trump’s 2016 election win, however, according to the Obama administration, the country was unsuccessful in its supposed efforts.

Gabbard has since released a formerly classified report on the matter. According to her, it reveals ‘gregious weaponisation and politicisation of intelligence’, BBC News reports.

Gabbard also claims that the documents present ‘irrefutable evidence’ that Obama and other officials directed the creation of an intelligence community assessment ‘they knew was false’.

Can the Trump administration actually prosecute Obama?

Long story short: no. As I’m sure you’re aware from the controversy surrounding Trump’s involvement the January 6 Captiol riots in 2020 that shook America to its very core, a president is immune to prosecution if the act is ‘official’.

This was a gray area for some time as no president had ever been tried while in office, but the topic was brought to people’s attention last year when Trump was indicted by a federal grand jury on four counts for conduct that occurred during his presidency following the November 2020 election.

This forced the Supreme Court to define what protection the POTUS has.

It stated last year: “Under our constitutional structure of separated powers, the nature of Presidential power entitles a former President to absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for actions within his conclusive and preclusive constitutional authority. And he is entitled to at least presumptive immunity from prosecution for all his official acts. There is no immunity for unofficial acts.”

Since Obama was in office during his alleged actions, he is immune from prosecution.

The administration would have to prove that the former president’s actions were unofficial to make any headway with criminal proceedings.

What has Obama said on the matter?

Obama’s spokesperson Patrick Rodenbush recently responded on behalf of the ex-POTUS to address the allegations.

“Out of respect for the office of the presidency, our office does not normally dignify the constant nonsense and misinformation flowing out of this White House with a response,” Rodenbush said. “But these claims are outrageous enough to merit one.”

He continued: “These bizarre allegations are ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction.

“Nothing in the document issued last week (by Gabbard) undercuts the widely accepted conclusion that Russia worked to influence the 2016 presidential election but did not successfully manipulate any votes.”

Among other things, it’s set to deliver tax breaks Trump promised when he was running for president in 2024, while also cutting health and food safety programmes.

Ahead of the vote, Obama urged Americans to call their representatives and ask them to vote against the mega bill.

More than 16 million Americans are at risk of losing their health care because Republicans in Congress are rushing to pass a bill that would cut federal funding for Medicaid and weaken the Affordable Care Act,” he said last week.

“If the House passes this bill, it will increase costs and hurt working class families for generations to come.

“Call your representative today and tell them to vote no on this bill.”

Writing on social media after the bill was approved – and on July 4 – Obama said: “Independence Day is a reminder that America is not the project of any one person.

The single most powerful word in our democracy is the word ‘We.’ ‘We The People.’ ‘We Shall Overcome.’ ‘Yes We Can.’ America is owned by no one. It belongs to all citizens.

“And at this moment in history—when core democratic principles seem to be continuously under attack, when too many people around the world have become cynical and disengaged—now is precisely the time to ask ourselves tough questions about how we can build our democracies and make them work in meaningful and practical ways for ordinary people.”

People were convinced that the message subtly referenced Trump, while others thanked Obama for the words of encouragement.

“I’m trying my best to enjoy this day, but I can’t help to think about the millions and millions of people who will lose their helpful resources since this Bill had been passed. I like that line…’America is owned by no one.’ ‘It belongs to all citizens.’ Amen, sir,” one wrote.

While another added: “Thank you. Keep them coming your words of encouragement bc I’ve never felt such despair as I do now.”
