Rihanna as a Golden Goddess in New Campaign Launching Her as the Face of J’Adore replacing Charlize Theron…Shot by Steven Klein
The singer replaces Charlize Theron as spokeswoman for the Christian Dior fragrance
There’s a new Dior queen in town!
Rihanna, 36, was unveiled as the face of J’Adore Fragrance by Dior in a new short film released on Sunday, Sept. 1, marking the next chapter for the fashion house as the singer replaces its longtime muse Charlize Theron.
The gorgeous campaign, directed by Steven Klein, was shot at the Palace of Versailles in France with Rihanna walking the hallways of the iconic residence and tells the story of a “metamorphosis and a coronation, a fusional encounter between a pop idol and a legendary perfume,” according to a press release obtained by Vogue.
Playing to her 2016 song “Love on the Brain,” Rihanna first appears in the film wearing a black belted jacket, pencil skirt, gloves and cap from Dior’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection, which she also wore attending the Dior Haute Couture show at Paris Fashion Week in January.
Sporting black shades and a diamond choker necklace with the look, the “Diamonds” singer enters the golden gates of the palace. She throws her Lady Dior handbag onto a chair as walks through a decadent room to grab a bottle of J’Adore perfume from a safe.
Rihanna changes into an embellished gold corseted gown with a sheer cape and pearl choker next. Her blonde hair flowing behind her, the Grammy winner catwalks down the hallway of the palace in a similar fashion to her predecessor Theron, 49, in the actress’ iconic 2011 J’Adore campaign.
The film ends with Rihanna seemingly walking on water in gold heels as she says the campaign’s tagline to the camera: “Your dreams, make them real.”
Rihanna was officially announced as the new face of J’Adore in July. Her takeover from Theron as the face of the fragrance comes after the actress joined the perfume brand back in 2004.
Luxury goods company LVMH, who owns Dior, said in a news release: “For over two decades, the fragrance has been a brilliant and faithful companion for women the world over, the perfume of a strong, liberated and independent woman, resonating perfectly with Rihanna’s personal story.”
The “Diamonds” singer called her new position fronting the signature perfume as “both an honor and a mission.”
“This scent, that I have known and loved for so long, means so much to women,” she said, per the release. “It is more than a perfume, it is a companion and a reference. I am especially touched to join this adventure and to contribute to it through my world, my story, my roots, as well as my creativity and my own femininity.”
Véronique Courtois, CEO of Perfume Christian Dior, said of the collaboration: “We are incredibly proud to welcome Rihanna into the Dior family. Her golden dream promises to be unique, reflecting a fragrance that is present for women, and retains its radiance.”
“The exceptional talent, audacity, and captivating beauty of this absolute star are the ideal embodiment of dazzling, powerful Dior femininity that transcends generations. Christian Dior would most definitely have adored her!”
