Taylor Swift thrills fans with first-ever concerts in Portugal during Eras Tour
In a career spanning nearly two decades, Taylor Swift finally performed in Portugal for the first time, making it a weekend to remember. The superstar brought her highly anticipated Eras Tour to Lisbon, delivering back-to-back, sold-out shows at Estádio da Luz.
Swift was clearly moved by the enthusiastic reception from the Portuguese crowd. During her first show on Friday night, she addressed the audience of 64,000 fans, saying, “When I first walked out on this stage, and I looked out and saw this crowd, you took my breath away
My heart was beating so fast. You just made me feel so lucky to be here with you tonight. Thank you so much for coming to this show.”
The tickets for the Lisbon dates sold out in just 2.5 hours last July, faster than the concert itself, which lasted three hours and fifteen minutes.
The show started at 8:15 p.m. and concluded with a spectacular fireworks display as Swift ended with “Karma” from the Midnights era.
Swift’s Eras Tour has been updated for the European leg to include songs from her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department. She debuted several new tracks earlier this month in Paris and Stockholm, but saved the live debut of “Fresh Out the Slammer” for the Lisbon shows.
Explaining the concept of the Eras Tour, Swift told the audience, “The idea is to combine all of my favorite moments from all the tours I’ve done and smash them into a grand adventure.”
She expressed regret for not having toured in Portugal before, promising, “We absolutely should have come to Portugal on every single tour. This is not a mistake I will ever be making again. We are always going to come to Lisbon.”
The crowd’s excitement was palpable, with deafening screams and cheers throughout the concert. Swift even spoke a few phrases in Portuguese, saying “Muito obrigada” upon taking the stage and calling for security in Portuguese when fans needed help.
During the Folklore/Evermore segment, the audience’s applause and cheers lasted for more than three minutes, prompting Swift to place her hands on her head in surprise and say, “Oh my god. I love you.”
Swift’s heartfelt connection with her fans and her gratitude for their support were evident throughout the performances. The Eras Tour will continue across Europe with shows in cities like Madrid, Lyon, Edinburgh, Liverpool, London, Dublin, Amsterdam, Zurich, Milan, and many more before moving on to Canada, wrapping up in Vancouver on December 8.
