Standing 7 feet, 3 inches tall, Jordan Wilmore played overseas basketball. Now, though, he wants to leave a lasting impression on the community.

KEMAH, Texas — The Kemah Police Department is getting a little bigger — make that A LOT bigger!

Jordan Wilmore is a cadet who’s head and shoulders above the rest. He wants to make a big difference in the small police department.

“In my 34 years, I’ve never seen someone as big as Jordan,” Chief Raymond Garivey said.

That’s because Wilmore stands 7 feet, 3 inches tall. He doesn’t just walk into a room … he towers over it.

“I have people that, like, kind of give me that look,” Wilmore said. “They’re, like, oh, hey, how tall are you?”

Before signing up for the academy, he was working security in Kemah and was constantly being noticed.

“When they told me about him, I knew that I had to meet him,” Garivey said.

The chief even went to meet him before the social media buzz.

At Kemah PD, even the doorway feels small when Wilmore walks in.

“He’s got a good personality and that’s what I told you — he fits our family,” Garivey said.

Wilmore played basketball overseas, but law enforcement is something he’s always wanted to be part of.

“It’s just a goal and dream aspiration I’ve always wanted to do, so I’m more than just an athlete,” he said. “I always am super big in doing community work. So, like, helping the homeless, helping out people that are always in need.”

Even though the chief said he’s a great fit for the department, not everything else is — even the biggest police cars are a tight squeeze.

Kemah PD said it’s working to find him a custom ride, a custom uniform and a special-ordered gun to fit his hands.

Wilmore will graduate from the academy in December, and Garivey thinks he might become the tallest police officer in the country.
