New ransom note emerges in Nancy Guthrie case

A new ransom note in the Nancy Guthrie case has been sent to media outlet TMZ from someone claiming to have information about her kidnappers.

It’s not the first email from this individual, who has previously demanded bitcoin in exchange for information about the suspects in Guthrie’s disappearance.

However, it is the first note to reference a location, stating that the writer saw Guthrie in Sonora, Mexico. The note also said Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” host Savannah Guthrie, is dead.

The note lashed out at the FBI, stating the agency had wasted “millions” on the search effort because it refused to pay for information, and that the FBI was arrogant for disregarding them as a scam.

The note came the same day Savannah Guthrie returned to her role at NBC.

Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on Feb. 1, 2026, when her family members checked on her after she missed a church service.

Authorities believe she was kidnapped in the early morning hours, as her pacemaker disconnected from her phone around 2:30 a.m., indicating the device was out of range.

More than two months later, no suspects have been named in the case, and the search continues.

The FBI released surveillance video showing a masked individual appearing to tamper with a camera at Guthrie’s front door. Investigators have also been analyzing DNA evidence found at or near the home, but neither effort has led to a suspect.

Multiple ransom notes received in Nancy Guthrie case

Multiple ransom notes have been sent to TMZ throughout the investigation. Some claimed to be from the kidnappers, who sought a ransom paid in cryptocurrency.

The writer of the most recent note has said they would provide law enforcement with information on Guthrie’s abductors in exchange for the reward money being offered by the FBI, to be paid in bitcoin.

The FBI has not confirmed the legitimacy of any ransom notes received in the case, nor has the agency said publicly whether the Guthrie family was in touch with the alleged kidnappers.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to Guthrie’s recovery or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.
