Travis Kelce Entered Today’s Matchup With Another NFL Milestone Within Reach — Here’s Exactly What He Needed
Travis Kelce stepped into Sunday’s Kansas City Chiefs–Las Vegas Raiders showdown with another piece of NFL history within touching distance.
Entering the game, the veteran tight end had 1,094 career receptions, leaving him just one catch away from reaching 1,095 and moving past Tim Brown for sole possession of seventh place on the NFL’s all-time receptions list.
That made every target from Patrick Mahomes potentially historic.
Kelce had already added several major achievements to his résumé during the 2026 season. Earlier in the year, he moved into second place all-time among NFL tight ends in receiving yards, another milestone that underlined his remarkable longevity.
He also entered the Raiders matchup in impressive form. Through the Chiefs’ first three games, Kelce had recorded 14 receptions for 231 yards and two touchdowns, including a 101-yard performance against Indianapolis in Week 2.
But Sunday’s milestone carried significance beyond one more number in the record book.
At 36 and in his 14th NFL season, Kelce is continuing to climb statistical lists that include some of the most accomplished receivers in league history. His pursuit of the top five in career receptions puts him in remarkable company, with Hall of Famer Cris Carter sitting sixth at 1,101 receptions.
And the timing couldn’t have been more compelling.
Kansas City entered the matchup 3–0, while Las Vegas also arrived undefeated at 3–0, making the AFC West showdown important for the Chiefs’ early-season position as well as Kelce’s personal record chase.
So there was plenty at stake whenever Mahomes looked Kelce’s way.
One reception for history. One game with major implications. One more opportunity for Travis Kelce to add his name to the NFL record book. 🏈🔥
